In the beginning...

Welcome. This is a new a experience for me. This blog will be a place for me to write down the million thoughts going through my mind about anything and everything. In it, I will discuss everything from gun control to immigration, current news to history, and Facebook's influence to politeness in our society. Pondering, analyzing, and discussing these and similar topics is one of my greatest passions. I greatly enjoy hearing others opinions and comments. I write this for myself, simply as a record of my thoughts. Perhaps it may interest you. In that case, welcome to the Silent Man's Soapbox.

  1. What are your thoughts on society's attitude toward hard work. Today I got my haircut and listened to the stylist and a sailor talk about how most all the sailors on the base are obsessed with playing games. Today's society doesn't have to do much physical labor. Is gaming a fair alternative or is it the other extreme. When I was a kid we played video games; today there are gamers. The counterparts are very different. Also, please address what role hard work (physical labor) should play in our home and our society.

    1. Great Question! Also one I must honestly admit to not fully having formed a conclusion on yet. Video games are a highly prevalent aspect of our modern culture, taking up a huge industry. Do they harm and danger relationships and responsibilities? Yes. Are video games themselves bad? Some are, some aren't. I believe the real problem lies in the lack of self control that exists today. Our youth are raised in a society that teaches them to have fun and enjoy life and worry about the consequences later. Video games are an easy predator for this kind of prey. They satisfy an instant gratification and create pseudo success. Are Video games hurting us? Yes, because we let them delve into our lives and widen a rift that should stay shut. Self-mastery over our impulses and desires can change this habit that is so common. I'll cover hard work in my next post.

  2. Interesting, can you also expand on the "rift that should stay shut" and what do you mean when you say that video games "delve into our lives". How do mean?

Excellent vocabulary by the way. Looking forward to your next post....let me know when its ready.
